چکیده
Received October 2006 Accepted March 2007 INTRODUCTION Intravesical instillation of bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) is a known treatment method in superficial bladder cancers after transurethral resection of the bladder tumor (TURBT).(1) Moreover, its polysaccharide nucleotide is used in the treatment of asthma.(2) However, the most familiar usage of the BCG to the public is vaccination against tuberculosis (TB) as a subcutaneous injection or oral administration.(3) Physicians should explain method of its use to the patients in order to avoid wrong injection and its side effects. In this study, we present a patient with transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) of the bladder in whom 4 vials of BCG were wrongly injected intramuscularly.

INTRODUCTION Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) is a live attenuated strain of Mycobacterium bovis that has been used to treat urothelial carcinoma since 1976, and has been reported to eradicate disease in more than 70% of patients with in situ and stage I disease. To the best of our knowledge, we report the first case of disseminated bacillus Calmette-Guerin infection causing multiple abscesses af...

One of rare complications is gran...

A 57-year-old male was found to have papillary transitional cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder and underwent a tranurethral resection of the tumor. He suffered from multiple asymptomatic red papules on glans penis after 9 th intravesical therapy with Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG ). His left inguinal lymph node was enlarged and tender. The skin lesions were found to be due to suppurative gra...

Approximately 70% of bladder transitional epithelium cell carcinomas are non-invasive muscular bladder cancers, and for the treatment and prevention of recurrence of this type of cancer, Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) is applied prophylactically. This practice is generally considered reliable and rarely causes systemic complications. We present here a case in which the patient underwent transur...

Intravesical instillation of Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) is a treatment to prevent recurrence of superficial urothelial bladder carcinoma. Complications after bladder instillation of BCG have been reported including locally invasive and systemic infections due to dissemination of Mycobacterium bovis from the bladder. We present an uncommon case and literature review of prosthetic joint infec...
